I'm excited about the new HR44. Can't get one fast enough. As a matter of fact, I can't get one at all. At least not the "free" one DirecTV promised me on July 15th. That is the date my contract entitles me to a free upgrade.
So the date comes around and DirecTV reveals to me that as a matter of policy they refuse to send even their most loyal customers the Genie of their choice. You can order a Genie, but they will only send whatever Genie is "next on the shelf," which could either be an HR34 or an HR44.
You can't arrange through an installer to get a 44 from them either (tried that). The only way to get a HR44 (other than purchasing one from a third-party, of course) is to order a Genie, cross your fingers and hope the Fed Ex guy brings you a 44.
I don't wanna get off on a tangent, but let's face it, DirecTV reps as a breed aren't what they used to be. One told me there was no difference between a 34 and a 44. None. Another told me the differences were so slight that if I were given a 34 and a 44 and tested them side by side for a month, I could only distinguish between them by their remotes.
Thankfully, one rep understood my preference for a 44 and reminded me that I can always order a Genie and return it if I'm "not pleased with the receiver -- just don't activate it!"
So that is what I've done. Twice. I've ordered 2 Genies in two weeks gotten a 34 each time. And something tells me there are more 34s where those came from. Lots more. So I can keep ordering and returning Genies or I can ask if anyone here knows a way around this madness. Suggestions?
Pertinent info: I am located in Los Angeles. The HR34s delivered by Fed Ex so far came from the same DirecTV warehouse in Rialto, CA.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
