Hello,
First post here. We live in central New Mexico not far from Albuquerque NM. About 22 miles southwest of Albuquerque near a small town called Chilili, in fact it's right behind the Saloon+restaurant that Walter White (yes Breaking Bad TV show) was hiding out from the law haha ;) and I mean the actual shooting location, not the depicted one in the show. We have had DirecTV practically since it was first available here in the southwest states, but it has ALWAYS been my brothers account. He is finally moving out into his own place (because he met his lifelong companion finally), and will be taking his DirecTV genie and whole home recording system with him, its his, he paid for it so its perfectly understandable.
However, that leaves my aging Parents without the ability to watch TV, which will NOT be tolerated. My Mom is a NASCAR addict and my Dad a sports fan, especially college and pro football. We already took down the poles (yes actual telephone style poles I had installed for them in the early 80's) that used to have our large OTA antennas on it, but no more. We removed them out of fear that the poles were rotting at the base and since they were not being used for anything, it just seemed best to remove them entirely. So going OTA isn't an option now. My parents are addicted to this style of recording and doesn't want complication or to learn a new system. They just want it replaced with much the same type of system, same UI, same DirecTV, with a Genie 2 and LOTS of recording ability (they fight often over recordings due to lack of tuners). They are in their 70's and both retired so they do a LOT of TV watching these days while I take care of everything else in life for them.
So I need to figure out how to get them DirecTV, preferable Genie 2 of course, in fact I think it MUST be the new Genie 2 because we can't stand the slowness of the first one, or the lack of tuners. It takes multiple seconds for remote commands to register (I don't really care why, my Mom wants much more recording ability using more tuners, so it must be a newer model with more tuners). Its really sad that in 2017 a modern system would be so slow. Anyway, how can I get the Genie 2 as soon as possible please? My Brother moves out on Sept 1st 2017 and I assume that is when his system also moves away with him. Lack of TV would probably be like taking drugs away from an addict. Seriously lol...
Do I need to call Solid Signal, or someone else locally?
Also, one last question. We are long long long time CenturyLink customers, its the only phone (no cell service where we live) and VDSL service up here so that's why, lol. CenturyLink usually has bundling with DirecTV though. Is that an option with Genie 2, bundling or no? That might save some cash, but it is not necessary to consider.
Thanks for any advice and help. I look forward to the responses, if any. Thanks
Best Regards
Rod
