HR34 tuner usage by mini-clients: questionable info from DTV?

I've got a HR34 and one mini-client installed at my house. I'd now like to add two more TVs, so I called DTV to inquire about installing two more mini-clients.

The sales representative stated that I shouldn't do that, as I would then be unable to record more than one program at a time, as the three mini-clients would each consume a tuner on the HR34. She suggested that instead, I needed to get full HD receivers for the other rooms so the Genie would still have the ability to record five shows. I expressed my disbelief, and was escalated to a support representative. The support rep made the same assertion, and was very clear that each connected mini-client permanently consumes one tuner on the HR34 regardless of the client's mode of operation.

As I understand it, the mini-clients do not use a tuner unless they are being use to watch live TV, and then only use an additional tuner if tuning a channel not currently being viewed on the HR34 or another client. Most of the shows I watch are set to record, and I rarely watch them live, so I expect the additional mini-clients will rarely be watching live TV... and therefore should rarely be consuming a tuner on the HR34.

Before I call back and insist on having my mini-clients, I want to verify that my understanding is correct—and that DTV is incorrect. I don't know if the reps I spoke to were misinformed, or if there is some shenanigans involved here regarding more lucrative receivers...

What should I expect to pay for getting two additional mini-clients? Given that I have the tools and experience to put compression fittings on RG6QS and I'm not scared of doing my own wall-fish, am I better off financially buying the clients retail and doing it myself?
