RG 59 Cable Issues

I wanted to post this in the Directv installers forum but I am not one so thought to put it here. Sorry this post is a bit lengthy but I have been battling Comcast cable and now Directv over using existing RG 59 cable that is 20 years old for HDTV and high speed broadband....please allow me to explain.

I had Directv's Genie HD DVR (Model: HR34-700) and three H25-500's in other rooms about 15 months ago. At the time, I only had the old box type TV's. The installer used the RG 59 40 Ft. run to a 4 way splitter in the attic. Had a licensed building inspector tell me that RG 59 will not carry and HD signal. I also have RG 59 to the connection at the wall plate where there is a line amp and another device installed.

Plugged in a 720P HDTV with an HDMI 4 cable from the Genie (Also tried it to the H25) and am getting a 480I signal at 60 HZ. The question is if indeed the RG 59 has to be replaced for HDTV?

Same issue for Comcast. They state RG 59 can carry HD signals. Have had internet speed problems for 2 years. Comcast finally replaced the cable from the pedestal to the house with RG 11. They were supposed to then run RG 6 to the modem. Instead they replaced the connectors on the RG 59 where the RG 11 is connected coming from the exterior wall. They have about a 40 foot run of RG 6 into a RG 59 cable probably 15 feet long to another RG6 out from the wall outlet to the modem. Getting good speeds now for internet.

Comcast management did the install and they were supposed to run an all RG 6 but kind of snuck out with a mishmash of RG 59/RG 6 which they probably didn't think would be discovered. The head guy for the cable vendor which buried the RG 11 outside today stated RG 59 won't carry HD signals along with the top building inspector for the local power company.

Why do I care with only Comcast internet? Because my kid had had a ton of internet connectivity issues for online school and I would like to eliminate this whole RG 59 question. Plus I don't appreciate the installers taking shortcuts and justifying it because it is too much of a "headache" to run RG 6 cable. If you can point me to the definitive answer on this RG 59 Internet/HDTV throughput issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
