A few misc. questions regarding DECA II Broadband...

Hey Everyone!

First off, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your 'COAX Networking 101' guide...it is so awesome and I learned so much from it. Thanks to you and the guide, I now have the following setup:

I currently have Time Warner Cable for internet only, but DirecTV for my television...

I have a brand-new drop that runs from the telephone pole to my network closet where my Time Warner 'Arris' Cable Modem is located and connects directly to the Cable Modem's Coax port.

My SonicWALL Firewall, along with a variety of Gigabit Switches are all located in this closet as well.

I have a CAT 6 Cable that runs from the Network Closet into and clear down the attic (to the other side of the house). This CAT6 Cable then plugs in directly into a Dual-band 2.4GHZ / 5GHZ AC/N WiFi ASUS Router in 'AP-Mode'.

Now, in my living room, which is almost directly below where this ASUS Router currently resides....I have my Home Entertainment stand.

- In this Media Stand I have an LCD TV, Blu-Ray Player, DirecTV Genie and a Gaming System...but I have no Ethernet connection.

- Back at the Network closet, I have a Coax cable going into a DECA II Adapter, then the other side of the DECA II is plugged into an AC Power Adapter and there is also an Ethernet Cable that connects the DECA II to my Router.

- Back in the Livingroom, I have a Coax cable that comes out of the wall and into my Genie HR34 DVR. It is getting supplied internet access.

- I was then planning on purchasing a WiFi Media Bridge to connect all of these 'Ethernet-Only' Devices to my ASUS Router in the Attic so that they could all have Internet access.

So...this was the *initial* plan...then I read your 'COAX Networking 101 Guide'.

I read that the Genie's also have a 'built-in' DECA Broadband Circuitry...so I ran a CAT6 Cable from the Genie to a 5-GB Switch and then a Cable from the switch to my Laptop and guess what??? IT WORKED!!!

Now all of my Ethernet-only devices have Internet Access!!!

So, now for a few quick questions:

1. - Are there any specific issues that I should be aware of, when having my DirecTV behind a Firewall, such as my SonicWall Firewall instead of it being directly plugged-in to the Time Warner Cable Modem?

2. - If I run a CAT6 Cable from my network closet to another room...then connect that cable to a 2nd DECA II and plug-in a COAX from the DECA II to a DirecTV Mini HD Receiver...then an HDMI Cable from that Mini HD Receiver to a LCD TV...will that TV also get DirecTV Service as I have everywhere else???

Thank you!!

BJ
