Programming a Genie Remote RC73 to a RF AV Receiver

I have the DirectTV Genie system, receiver HR44, clients are C41W. The remote for each box is the RC73. I'd like to upgrade my AV receiver on one of the clients to an RF AV receiver, and I'm wondering if the RC73 will talk directly to an AV receiver in RF mode if I do this? I've read conflicting reports on this.
