I have been a DirectTV customer for twenty one years now. I do not know the model number of the old dish, it was installed in 1995, single LNB. When I built my house in 1986/87, I wired most every room with RG-6, each line comes down to a central point in the furnace room along with a feed from the over the air antenna.
At one point in time I used a combiner, #PVMS-8EP. The dish had two coax lines coming off, into the house and over to the central point. One went to each LNBF IN, the tv antenna went to the TV Antenna in.
Two receivers were utilized, one in the kitchen, one in the den. the coax for each was simply connected to the combiner, the outlet in the kitchen was connected to a TERK combiner, combined signal in, satellite signal out to sat in on the receiver, antenna out to antenna in on the receiver. Likewise for the den. My receivers were basic models. It worked beautifully, with a Harmony remote programmed to set the TV to channel 3, sat receiver on, change channels with sat receiver when satellite was selected, select regular TV, sat receiver off, change channels with the TV tuner. Press off, all off. If I wanted to move a TV to the porch during the summer months, simply attach that line to the combiner, terminate the outlet in the den, move the tv and receiver to the porch.
Now to my question.
Local channels on DirectTV finally came around to my area a few years ago. Not all of them but most.
I finally got around to upgrading my dish, the old one was starting to shift, and show it's age. With my new dish, I am able to receive a few of the local channels, but not all of the sub-channels. PBS comes in but not the Create channel which is a sub channel of PBS. Likewise there is a NBC channel I enjoy watching from another market that I could receive with the off air antenna, but not on the DirectTV local lineup.
The installer came out, very professional. I am very pleased with what he did. It was easy enough to tie into the existing coax lines. I am not sure of the new dish model, it does say SWIM on the new single LNB, the dish is oval shaped. There is a new "splitter" where my old combiner was, it says SWIM. One input, three outputs. Two of the outputs are being used, one for the kitchen line the other for the den line. I also have new receivers, basic H25-100 receivers.
Will I be able to use my TERK combiners and my old PVMS-8EP with my current setup? I can certainly deal with watching the local channels offered on the satellite, but would like to be able to switch back to the TV antenna as before to watch the other sub-channels that are not offered on the satellite line-up.
I did find out that DirectTV offers a receiver to combine with existing receivers, AM21N, although they do not advertise such.
Sorry to ramble on like this, thinking the more detail the better.
I can look for model numbers tomorrow. Thanks again in advance.
