I recently (12/5/17) upgraded to the HS17 Genie 2 and one C61K Genie Mini for my Home Theater. The DIRECTV Mini video-out signal is fed through the proper 4K capable HDMI cable to a Marantz SR6011 AVR and then on through the proper HDMI cable to an Epson 5040UB projector. The system is 4K capable in all aspects and has been used for 4K projection from an XBOX One S numerous times with no issues. When the DIRECTV tech installed the original Mini, he chose to bypass the recommended firmware upgrade in an effort at expediency. The HS17 tower and Mini performed flawlessly until the firmware update to the Mini two days later (12/7/17). At that time, the image took on a distinct blue hue and compressed to no more than the center half of the screen. All DIRECTV settings were maintained and checked many times. I have found that the only way to get a proper picture is to turn off the upscaling feature in the Marantz AVR and even then the Mini doesnt recognize that my projector is 4k capable. In talking to DIRECTV technical support, this phenomenon is not familiar to them which I interpret to mean that there is no corrective firmware update in the pipeline. My only option is to back-date to a pre-4K Mini which I dont really want to do. I use the upscaling in the Marantz and find it to be a very nice upgrade to the 1080i/720p picture from the Minis. SO
.is anyone else having this issue? What can be done to correct it other than what Ive already tried? Any thoughts? The older various Minis (both wireless and hardwired) work fine in this installation.
Thanks,
Bob
