We live just south of downtown Ann Arbor near a city park and are presently using a name-brand flat antenna I got at Costco, inside our home. It's great for the Detroit NBC and ABC affiliates, but not reliable for much else, and we need to be able to get at least PBS and CBS too. More station options would be great, but CBS and PBS are crucial. Probably Fox too.
We live in a residential area with a lot of trees. We have a huge tree in the front yard ourselves. We don't own the house, so I'm disinclined to try to get into the attic or drill much into the walls or floors. There's a coax hookup outside the house that goes straight to the family room where our TiVo is.
I'm inclined to go with the HDB4X or HDB8X, and to mount it either to the chimney or to this small pen in our backyard -- it's about six to seven feet high and made of chain-link fence. Does anyone have any thoughts?
