91XG to 300 Ohm feedline: Can Balun be removed?

- SORRY FOR THE CROSS-POST! I MEANT TO POST IN THIS FORUM INITIALLY -

Hi,

I just purchased a 91XG and a VHF-Hi Yagi, and both are on thier way.

These two will be connected to a mast-mounted preamp with separate VHF and UHF inputs (if anyone is curious, all my VHF stations are 50 degrees off from all of the UHF ones, they'll be separated by 4' or so and aimed in different directions...) and this preamp has 300 ohm inputs from the antennas, 75 ohm RG6 downlead. This is not an issue for the VHF Yagi, as it's a 300 ohm antenna, but the 91XG has a 75->300 balun included.

Can this be removed and 300R twinlead directly attached? I'd hate to have to take the loss of another balun just to attach it to the preamp...

Ideas/suggestions/help welcome!

Thanks,

-John
