Hi, very new here. What brought me on is troubles with an upgrade from an old splitter system onboard our ship to a dual swim 16 install. We have a KVH HD7 which has worked flawlessly for approximately 20 DTV D12 boxes in standard def and 5 H25 receivers to get our feet wet with HD service. To keep this a little less lengthy, I will leave out what we were running before and get into what we are trying to do.
The goal here is to ultimately end up with HD boxes in about 24 different locations throughout the ship. Right now, we only have 5 that we are going to start with for HD, the others are older D12 boxes with appropriate band stop filters already installed.
New installation giving us fits: We have approx 100ft of RG11 x 4 running down from the KVH to a sonora LA144R amp, that is wired directly to a sonora 4SATPL power inserter, power supply is hooked up to this. From there, wiring goes to 4 skywalker diplexers and on to two swim 16s. Swim 16s each have their own power supplies hooked up. From here, its off to the green label splitters. As a trial run today, we only tried using one of the green label splitters to send signal to our previously configured H25 boxes.
What really sent us for a loop today, was after trying to initially fire up the "new" system (swim, sonora stuff, etc) the KVH ACU ended up having an "antenna skew assembly" error. Spent alot of time with KVH on the phone and dropped the antenna mast down to do another inspection. All looked pristine. Powered all back up and it took an eternity to find satellites.
We tried reconfiguring all wiring back to how it was to try and get some TV for the night (or the weekend at this point) and we cant get anything to work now. The wiring for the sonora stuff, swim units, splitters, etc was downloaded by a coworker who previously researched this project... my boss actually. That said, I gotta say he did a bang up job on the research but I am having a heck of a time executing it. Any and all advice appreciated..... thanks!
